Windchime Meditation

I first performed the "windchime meditation" in 2022 at Kate Sessions Park in San Diego as a way to take my overtone singing practice and my interest in ambient music into public spaces. The 45 minute structured improvisation uses of the unpredictability of the wind and the meditative motion of waving a fan to build music out of the air.
Two months after the first performance, I took the "windchime meditation" to public parks up the coast of California. When I returned to San Diego two dancers, Isabel Desmet and Odessa Uno, moved through an improvisational framework alongside what I thought would be the final performance of the meditation.

"windchime meditation" was then invited to perform at Art Produce's garden patio as part of sound-artist Joe Cantrell's residency. I expanded the score of the "windchime meditation" to account for a group of singer and invited members of SdNVW to engage with the piece. Then the meditation was sponsored by Project [BLANK] to perform at the North Park Mini Park, a public space with a variety of pitched percussion instruments. I further expanded the score to include these xylophones and bells and worked to include percussionists in the indeterminant texture.
The "windchime meditation" has been performed over 15 times in different arrangements and in different performance contexts including at the University of San Diego and Cuyamaca College. If you are interested in seeing the full score or performing the "windchime meditation" please reach out to me and I would be happy to provide more details about the piece.
