SdNVW

I cofounded San Diego New Verbal Workshop (SdNVW) with Charissa Noble and Dom Cooper at the end of 2022 with the hope of gathering together a group of people to sing. We started working through Pauline Oliveros's Sonic Meditations, performing, and devising our own pieces. As a group we have grown to specialize in modern vocal and improvisational techniques.

Together we have brought pieces by Fluxus composers Stuart Saunders Smith, Charlie Morrow, Cornelius Cardew, and John Cage to museums, colleges, and community workshops. We have also performed work by contemporary composers Akari Komura, Sharon Chohi Kim and Sarah Hennies.

Currently we are developing new skills in movement and deepening our improvisational practice.

I have enjoyed working with SdNVW as music direction and have set pieces of my own, including the "windchime meditation", on the group. Choir members have also been avid participants in many of my collaborations with performance and visual artist Brian Black.
