Holy Ghost

The "Holy Ghost" was an album I created to experiment with making spontaneous music with a large ensemble with a similar aesthetics to the spiritual jazz and the third-wave movements of the later 20th century. The piece was never played in full by the 13-piece band, only sections had been rehearsed by fractions of the band. The directions are specific but each musician is given freedom in how they execute their part. I conducted the piece with a series of slides and by singing through the last movement. The album was recorded in front of a live audience December 2nd, 2022 at the Athenaeum Art Center in Barrio Logan for San Diego New Music.
The Holy Ghost Ensemble was: Ryan Ebaugh (soprano saxophone), Jordan Adams and Ben Fox (trumpets), Wili Fleming and Rebecca McKinley (trombones), Aaron Gragg (sousaphone), Ida Naughton and Shari Ressel (flutes), Kristopher Apple (violin), Sharon Taylor (cello), Christopher Adler (piano), Nathan Hubbard (drum kit), and Jack Nevin (percussion).

Music composed and directed by Zane Alexander S.B. Recorded, mixed, and mastered by Andrew Walsh. Album art by Brian Black.
